The Pink Elephant Project begins!
Who is the Pink Elephant Project?
The Forest of Dean Pink Elephant Project is a Community Interest Company set up by a small group of people aiming to provide a safe space, facilities and activities to support the local community’s health and wellbeing.
We have set up the business as a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation, so that any profits we make on our activities will be fed directly back into the community.
We do not have shareholders – so there are no chief executives getting rich on our hard work or the communities’ investment in us!
Our aims are to provide:
- A warm and well-lit building
- Facilities for preparation and service of food and drinks
- Professional counselling
- Training on health, wellbeing, and life-skills
- Workshops, to include various crafts, breath-work, relaxation techniques, journalling, etc
- Quiet areas for contemplation and meditation
- Somewhere to release stress and anxiety
- A retreat where people can seek respite and support
Where is the Pink Elephant Project going to be based?
We are planning on offering activities in a number of community halls in the Forest of Dean, starting January 2025.
As we generate funds and interest, we hope to establish a fixed site somewhere central that will benefit the Forest community.
The initiative will provide some employment locally, along with some volunteer positions too.
Who is going to benefit?
The community will benefit from the Pink Elephant Project by having somewhere to turn for help and support in times of stress and anxiety.
All members of the local community will be able to join in activities to enhance their health and wellness in many ways, giving the benefit of improved general fitness, both physically, mentally and emotionally for everyone who attends.
The community will also benefit from the opportunities being created. The Pink Elephant Project provides workshops and activities, building both community spirit and friendships. We provide a safe space where anyone is welcome to take time for themselves away from the situations causing stress and anxiety.
Professional councillors will be available during the sessions, who will offer the opportunity to access 1:1 support through conversation and coaching.
When is this happening?
We have already made a start. In the last few months, we’ve registered the Pink Elephant Project, and got the core financial and business systems in place.
Starting January 2025, we plan to roll out activity sessions at numerous sites across the region.
We would like to have our own permanent site by late 2025!
